Quentin T. Sumner
Judge Sumner is the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge for District 7A, Nash County. He grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and is proud to continue to serve his home county of Nash.
In 1972, Judge Sumner earned a Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina Central University. He returned to North Carolina Central University for law school where he was a member of the Law Review. He earned his Jurist Doctorate in 1975.
After law school, Judge Sumner was a founding partner in the law firm of Fitch, Butterfield, and Sumner. Milton "Toby" Fitch Jr. is now a Superior Court Judge and G.K. Butterfield is now a Congressman representing the first Congressional District. The law firm served both Wilson and Rocky Mount.
In 1978, Judge Sumner began the firm of Sumner, Evans, and Lawrence. His partner Robert Evans is now a District Court Judge and his partner Antonia Lawrence is in private practice.
In 1983, Judge Sumner was appointed to the District Court bench in North Carolina's 7th Judicial District, serving Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson Counties. In 1990, Judge Sumner was elected as the Senior Resident Superior Court Judge of District 7A, Nash County.
