State v. Joseph Sledge
In the case of State v. Sledge, the Commission conducted a hearing on December 3, 4, and 5, 2014. The Commission voted unanimously that there was sufficient evidence to merit judicial review. At that time, the case was referred forward to a three-judge panel. The documents presented at the Commission hearing became public record and are included below.

The three-judge panel was held in Columbus County on January 23, 2015. The District Attorney and the Defense Attorney agreed that the Commission uncovered new evidence of innocence and they jointly asked the Judges to vacate the conviction. The Judges agreed and declared Mr. Sledge innocent. He was released the same day.
